Renovation of Three Existing Apartment Buildings
Stewarts Neck Apartments is a site of three garden style buildings originally built in the 1970s. This project is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Somerset County. Each building houses a mixture of 1 and 2 bedroom units. This substantial renovation focused on completely gutting the interiors of the units and updating them to current housing trends with galley style kitchens, open living spaces, laundry in the units and larger storage spaces. New finishes and energy saving appliances and fixtures were utilized. Bays were also added to the units to give more life and character to the facades on all sides, but also provide more space for the residents within their unit. The project site was large enough to construct a new community building to house the management/leasing offices, but also provide some amenities for the residents, to promote a sense of community among the users. Multiple apartments were also upgraded for UFAS accessibility standards to provide a place for any disabled residents to be a part of the community. The community building consisted of a large gathering room, an exercise room to promote healthy awareness and a couple of classroom type spaces. These would allow the residents to hold meetings, have clubs and use the varied spaces for multiple purposes.
