Unique Renovation in Berlin, Maryland
Rehabilitated in 2016, this existing 32 apartment unit complex just off of Bay Street in the small Eastern Shore town of Berlin, Maryland was given a new life. The three apartment buildings and stand alone community building was upgraded both inside and outside with better quality and more durable products that have longer lifespans. New covered porches and covered stair breezeways not only added character to the building architecture, but they also provide security and weather protection for the residents. The existing flat building facades were accentuated with new projected bays, gable roofs and a variety of siding colors/textures. These not only added interest to the buildings, but also allowed for larger rooms within the individual apartment units. The exterior architectural features and design elements compliment the massing and provide the necessary components to provide the needed relief from the existing monolithic facades. The basic geometric form and simplicity of shape reflects the modesty of the agricultural community.
